13 halves make one whole

By now, most of you probably know I’m training for my second half marathon. But did you know it’s number 2 of 13 halves I plan to run over the next several years?

And the best part is, I’m traveling to different destinations for each of them.

That alone excites the hell out of me. But what excites me even more is that just a few short years ago, anxiety may have kept me from traveling to unfamiliar cities altogether – let alone signing up for major distance races. And running alongside a bunch of elite athletes.

“What if people think I’m too slow?” and “What if I don’t finish?” were just a few of the nagging questions back then. And then there are the travel-related worries about what flight to book, where to stay and whether I’d have enough money to do any of it.

Like so many things in life, it took just doing it to realize that I can indeed do it.

Each and every trip – whether it’s for running, vacation or business – reminds me that there is so much to see and do outside of Milwaukee. All of which makes me notice and appreciate things here at home all the more.

Through training for, traveling to and finishing all these 13-milers, I hope to discover even more about myself. Recent years have been filled with lots of learning, growing, changing and improving.

And I can’t wait to see how each of these distance races contribute to the person I am meant to be in the long run.
