What a difference a year makes

One of the main differences between training for Miami and training for Vegas is where I am in my life right now.

The year has been filled with equal parts challenge and fortune. And what more can we ask for out of life than that kind of balance? I’ve seen some family members struggle. While others, like my parents, are enjoying life more than ever.

I’ve seen work obstacles appear out of nowhere – sometimes at the very last minute. And somehow, I’ve found a way past them. I finally figured out how to ask for help when I need it.

Last fall, I used training as a way to retract. Be reclusive for a while. And just focus on me. This year, I am using it to connect with people (yay Lisa, for joining me in Vegas!) and even influence others to take on their own challenges. Seriously, people, if I can run a half marathon, so can you…And if not a half marathon, whatever you set your mind to.

Over the past 10 months, I have had the priviledge of seeing several friends transform their bodies through the hard work of weight loss. Watched others mature as professionals. I’ve even gotten to know some true survivors. And what better way to stay motivated than to be around someone who truly values life?

This time around, I’m not running from anything. I’m running toward some really awesome things – the finish line (obviously). A successful career. An even more cohesive family. And even, love.

And what better way to keep my heart in shape – for both running and life?
