This morning, I jogged a 2-miler with my new training partner, Kahlua the puppy. (Well, her mommy THINKS she is a puppy but as a chihauha-basenji mix, it’s hard to tell).
When the alarm went off, I soooo did not want to get out of bed. But I could hear Kahlua rustling around, eager to start her day. Once out on Oklahoma, I realized what I had suspected all along – she is MUCH faster than me. And since she is significantly smaller than me, I can only imagine how we looked together. Quite the pair, scampering around Bay View in the early-morning sunshine.
A half a mile into the jaunt, I had to beg her to walk for a minute. And believe me, it was not easy to convince her to slow her pace. I think she was just born to run. Meanwhile, I was born to more or less saunter. And maybe jog occasionally.
So here we are, an uncommon half-marathon pair. I’m guessing this training will do two things – calm Kahlua’s overzealousness and increase my running pace. If it doesn’t kill me first.
Good run today, girl, can’t wait for next week’s outing.
